You Can Make a Difference. Here’s How: |
|
Write a letter to the editor of the Hartford Courant or your local paper. Stay informed. Attend meetings of your town council or selectmen or other boards and commissions (such as Finance or Planning and Zoning) to learn how town business is conducted, keep on top of what’s happening and speak up in support of regional collaboration. Write, fax or call your elected officials. Let town leaders know that you support municipal partnerships for the good of your town and the entire region. Urge state officials to support regional collaboration policies. When someone cares enough to write, legislators pay attention. Find out how to reach them at http://votesmart.org. Don’t forget to contact the Governor: Governor M. Jodi Rell, Executive
Office of the Governor, State Capitol, 210 Capitol Avenue,
Hartford, CT 06106; 860-566-4840; or Elect regional collaborators. Before you vote, find out how candidates for town and state offices propose to enhance quality of life and economic competitiveness around the region. Then hold them to it. Get involved. Join a board or commission in your town or get active with another civic group where you can build support for a shared vision for the region. Understand that you can make a difference and that little things can make a big difference. Change is possible, and you can help make it happen.Recognize the consequences of inaction and maintaining the status quo. “If we always do what we’ve always done, we’ll always get what we always got.” Join the Citizens Network.
